The Photograph

Some members of the family are very familiar with this wonderful old  photograph of Joseph Josephson Wall and his family that I have at the top of the page, but I know that my branch of the family had never seen this until recently. On the back of the photograph that I scanned, the man in the upper left-hand corner was identified as Joseph Josephson Wall, Jr, but I knew this wasn't right because I am descended from Joseph Josphson Jr., and this definitely was not him, so this set me off on a hunt to find out more about the two daughters that married and stayed in Nebraska. From family records and FamilySearch.org, Eva Charlotte married John Hanson, and Albertina Dorothea married Theodore Ferdinand Anderson

Searching further online I found a historical sketch and photograph of Frithof F. Hanson who is the son of Eva Charlotte Wall and John Hanson. Also in the photo is Raymond, who is the son of Frithiof, along with his wife Loretta, and a little history of them also -- click here for a link to the historical sketch and the photo, which are included in the last two entries at the bottom of the page -- Frithiof F. Going back through the photographs I had collected, I found an unidentified photo of a man and a boy from a studio in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, the same place mentioned in the historical sketch. The man bore a strong resemblance to the man in the upper left-hand corner of the photo in the blog. The boy also looked very much Raymond Hanson in the photo that I found on the internet. So it is likely the photo below is of Raymond and Frithiof Hanson. The family in Nebraska at some point had sent the photo to a family member in Utah.

So, in the family photo at the top of the page, we have (back row l-r) John Hanson, Eva Charlotte Wall Hanson, Augusta Matilda Wall, Albertina Dorothea Wall, Theodore Ferdinand Anderson, (front row l-r) Joseph Josephson Wall Sr., Hulda Oliva Wall, Johanna Kant Wall.

Joseph Josephson Wall's Burial Place

Joseph Josephson Wall is buried at, Holladay Memorial Park, a private cemetery, in Holladay, Utah. His is the only Wall grave marker there. It seems there should be other Wall's buried in this area as there is quite a bit of space around Joseph's tombstone with no markers.  I visited years ago and seem to remember more trees and a tall stone with his first wife's name on it. Unfortunately, I don't think I took a photo.

Click here for a link to a map showing the cemetery (B) where Joseph is buried. His grave is down in the southern point area, just before Arbor Lane curves around to the northeast. If I remember right, Memory Lane and Arbor Lane are on the outside of the fence and parallel a road inside the fence. Also shown on the map is Russell Street (A). The Osgoods (descendants of his second wife's son, Conrad) have told me that this used to be named Wall Street, the area where the Walls owned land and lived. Nearby is Hintze Circle (C), the area where Joseph's daughter, Augusta Matilda, who married Ferdinand Hintze lived.
